We all know that first appearances are what matters. Especially in business, first impressions are of the utmost importance. As a man, one of the best ways to guarantee a quality first impressions is by sporting a tuxedo. That being said, you must always make sure that it is worn with proper accessories, and that you choose the right dress shirt.
One thing that could mar your entire appearance is the shirt. A wrong shirt could easily spoil the entire show and also the image. Your shirt should compliment the jacket and not work against it.
We happen to look at a number of pictures of the celebrities in the media donning their tuxedos with a shirt that is open at the neck, quite contrary to the way it is meant to be worn. Clubbing an informal open-necked shirt with a formal tuxedo would be the wrong thing to do. People do this in order to look younger and trendy.
It is not a Herculean task to match your shirt with your tuxedo. If you happen to be wearing a conventional tuxedo, all you need to do is to select some branded shirts to augment the overall look.
Different tuxedo styles call for different shirt styles. Plain tuxedos require either a non-stripped or thinly stripped shirt, which is ideal for a business setting. Social events allow you to add variety through patterned shirts. Black tuxedos call for white, pastel blue, or pastel yellow shirts. Brown tuxedos, on the other hand, allow for light blue or light green shirts to be worn.
A light pink or blue shirt will look superb with a navy blue jacket. If wearing a pinstripe or patterned tuxedo however, the shirts must always be one solid color.
When attending a social event there is always a certain amount of flexibility in your attire. However, as we have said you are often judged by your appearance and first impressions count. Therefore at formal occasions you should always try your utmost to not just look smart but be immaculately dressed at all times. If you fail to make a good first impression you already have some catching up to do.
In business, the last thing you want is to be at a disadvantage in any way simply because of the way you dress. However, if you don’t look 100% you will already be a step behind with the impression you are hoping to convey.
